New Water Treatment Regulations to be Posted on Environmental Registry
TORONTO, August 08, 2000 – Environmental Commissioner of Ontario Gord Miller said today he was pleased that the Ministry of the Environment was putting new water treatment regulations in place. Although the regulations will be in force before the end of August, they will also be posted on the Environmental Registry for a 30-day comment period by the public and stakeholders.
“Because of urgent need for these water treatment standards, the posting of these regulations on the Environmental Registry is slightly unusual,” Miller said today. “However, our office has been assured that all comments from the public during the 30-day comment period will be considered and any necessary changes will be made.”
The Environmental Commissioner said his office will follow the posting of these regulations closely. Miller added that his staff will review the substance of the regulations and how public comments are taken into account by the ministry after the 30-day comment period is over.
