ECO Annual Report to be Released October 2000
TORONTO, March 20, 2000 – In the past, the annual reports of the Environmental Commissioner of Ontario (ECO) have been based on the calendar year, and were released each year near the end of April. However, this year the ECO is targeting October 2000 for the release of the annual report.
Ontario ministries have been requesting for several years that the Environmental Commissioner move toward a report based on the fiscal year. Staff in the ministries have pointed out that such a change would allow them to coordinate their reports to the ECO with other business planning and with their budget submissions to Ontario's Management Board of Cabinet. We have decided to implement this change, since it will allow the ECO to see the completion of ministry processes before evaluating them.
The 1999/2000 ECO report will review and report on ministry activities between January 1, 1999, and March 31, 2000. In future, each annual report will cover the period from April 1 to March 31 of the following year.
